Guest Demonstrator October 2005:
Marilyn Campbell

I came to turning in a roundabout way. My fascination with wood began soon after my partner and I built a 36' ferro-cement sailboat in the mid '70s. Once the boat was launched, I looked around for a more creative outlet and discovered woodturning. Since that time my turning has evolved through many stages.

I also brought with me to turning a boatbuilder's staple - epoxy, a material I had recognized during boat construction as one with many artistic possibilities. For several years now I have been exploring a creative approach made possible by the combination of epoxy with wood. Epoxy offers an additional element to manipulate and I now consider it to be my second medium.

I am always attempting to make work that resonates with the viewer and carries my theme within its imagery. Inspiration for my work is conceived in the natural world but takes a twist in its passage through my imagination.
