Larry Hasiak

Larry Hasiak was born and raised in New Hope, Bucks Co. Pennsylvania. He moved to Florida in 1982 and resides in Tarpon Springs. Larry worked all of his professional life for International Business Machines having retired after 30 years of service.

Being an amateur furniture builder most of his life, he moved on to woodturning in 1985. His formal turning education began in 1986 when he studied under Liam O'Neil, the noted woodturner from Ireland. Since that time, Larry has also studied under Ray Ferguson, Professor of Art, University of Florida; Hap Sakwa, sculptor and woodturner from California; David Ellsworth, studio turner from Pennsylvania; Bruce Mitchell, sculptor and woodturner from California and Michael Peterson, studio turner from Washington state.

Larry has been invited to be a guest demonstrator at the 1990 and the 2001 American Association of Woodturners Symposiums. He was assistant woodturning instructor at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts during the summer of 1991. Mr. Hasiak was also one of four instructors at the Tennessee Association of Woodturners Annual Symposium in 1993 and again in 1999. He regularly does demonstrations and teaches woodturning at AAW chapters across the country. Larry was appointed to the Professional Standards Committee of the Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh, Pa in 1994. In January, 1996 he became a member of the board of directors of the American Association of Woodturners and has served as treasurer and vice president of that organization. Mr. Hasiak has been teaching a one week woodturning class at the John C. Campbell Folk School on a regular basis since 1997.

Mr. Hasiak is a member of the International Wood Collectors Society, the American Association of Woodturners, Florida Craftsman Inc., the American Craft Council and the Florida Westcoast Woodturners.
