Guest Demonstrator February 2002:
Jim McPhail

Jim McPhail has been a turner for 15 years and a full-time professional for the last seven years. He is self-taught.

McPhail has developed a style of small bowl-making involving the lamination of multiple layers of different colors, textures and thicknesses of wood. His bowls generally contain from nine to 21 layers and are between one and five inches wide. He is especially well known for his bright, smooth finishes.

He will demonstrate the steps to create a "layered" bowl, including choosing and prepping the woods, gluing, turning and finishing.
