Guest Demonstrator February 2007:
Don Rose
The guest demonstrator for the Carolina Mountain Woodturner’s February
meeting will be one of our own, Don Rose from Simpsonville, SC.
Don is a native of Marietta, Ohio and a graduate of Ohio University. He has
resided in South Carolina since 1969 and retired from the Fluor Corporation in
1997. Don is a former member of the Palmetto Woodturners and has been a member
of the Carolina Mountain Woodturners since 2001. He is also a member of the
American Association of Woodturners and the National Wood Carvers Association.
Don has been involved in some form of woodwork for over 50 years.
Don does not turn full time, but sells enough of
his work to make it a self-supporting and very enjoyable hobby. He enjoys a
variety of woodworking including scroll-saw, intarsia and turning which is the
most challenging as there are so many forms that you can develop.
Don teaches and demonstrates at woodworking shows,
the Woodcraft store in Greenville, SC, and tutors in his own shop.
At the February meeting Don will be demonstrating
several small woodturning projects such as tree ornaments, fan pulls, bottle
stoppers and small bowls and vases while showing some ways that he has found to
make them quickly and easily.
