Guest Demonstrator May 2003:
Gary Sanders

I have worked with wood since I was a teenager. In 1992 I bought my first lathe,
and initially started turning as a hobby, selling small items at craft shows.
In 1994 I decided to devote my free time to turning art. I have displayed my
turnings at the San Antonio Museum of Art. My work is included in both private
and corporate collections. My turnings have been exhibited at numerous national
art shows. These include:
- Growth thru Sharing, Greensboro, North Carolina, 1996
- Small Treasures, Los Angeles, California, 1997 and 1998
- Pathways, Akron, Ohio, 1998
- Works in Wood, Chesterton, Indiana, 1998
- The 19th and 20th Annual Box and Container Show, Seattle, Washington, 1998 and 1999
- SOFA-Chicago,1999
- Horizons 2000, in Brookfield, Connecticut, 2000
- Branching Out: Contemporary Wood Turning, 2002 in Arlington, Virginia.
As a member of the American Association of Woodturners, I have demonstrated
for their national symposiums in San Antonio, Texas, in 1997, Akron, Ohio,
in 1998, and Providence, Rhode Island, in 2002. I have also demonstrated at
the state level equivalent -The Texas Turn or Two- 1996-1998.
My wife, Sheryl and I live with our four children in Greenville, Texas, where
I am a firefighter for the city.
