February 2002

The February gallery was a great success with a total of 56 pieces from 19 turners. As good as it was, we can do a lot better. The 19 people represented only about 15% of the 130 turners present for the meeting. If every person brought something every 6th meeting, i.e., twice a year, we would have 21% representation at each meeting and should have around 80 to 90 pieces on the tables. I am sure that one of the reasons that the the Folk Art Center donates the space is that our programs and gallery create a point of interest to bring people in; so in a way, we owe it to them to put on a good gallery each and every month. Do your part. Turn something to bring in at least twice a year!

The turned box contest was also a success with 29 boxes representing 9 turners. Heinz Jaeger's threaded Saturn box and Darrell Copeland's birds eye maple tied for first place. Darrell turned his box on the new Jet mini lathe he won in the club raffle. (He claims not to have turned much before!) Heinz said it took several tries to get the final box completed.

Thanks so much for everyone's participation.
