About the demo

Anne will share her expertise in turning scaled miniatures

This demonstration begins by scaling objects from full size to 1:12 scale and shows how turning miniatures helps with tool control. My expertise is in turning 18th and 19th century replica antiques for miniature collectors. I will turn to scale a lidded wood bowl, a replica from the Winterthur Museum in Delaware. All of the steps in turning miniatures can be scaled up for full size. I also discuss tools for turning miniatures and I bring a variety of different brands with varying levels of metal quality. Most recently I have been making my own tools for turning miniatures. l talk about that process and how to scale up for large tools.

Workshop

Anne will be offering a day-long workshop on on Sunday, March 16 on learning to turn miniatures
at CMW's well-equipped Learning Center in Arden, which appears as a separate event on the CMW calendar.

The workshop requires active CMW membership, advance registration and payment of a fee.

Those wishing to participate in a workshop are expected to have attended the demonstration in person or via Zoom.

Anne Ogg bio

An Artisan in the International Guild of Miniature Artisans, I am a woodturner specializing in miniatures, specifically 18th and 19th century replicas in a scale of one inch to one foot. I teach woodturning at UNC Asheville in SkillSet, a community outreach program that began in 2018 as a shop class for girls and now expands its reach to all members of the community. I served 6 years on the board of Carolina Mountain Woodturners, 2 years as vice president and 2 years as president, the first woman to hold this position. CMW is the largest chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. I have demonstrated for clubs in Maine, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, and online for the International Guild of Miniature Artisans.
