Monthly CMW meeting and demo with Donna Zils Banfield at the Folk Art Center
About this event
Please join us on Saturday, May 17 at 10:30 AM
for a demonstration by master turner
Donna Zils Banfield
in person in the auditorium of the
Folk Art Center, 382 Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville, NC
Open to the public. Free admission.
About the demo
"The Wood Ffolkkes (above) are the result of my ’18-month pandemic vacation’. These are sculptural works, a mythical community of abstract forms, all started from the same core but grown into individuals by different experiences. In the demo, attendees will see the techniques used in making these: turning, power carving, pyro-carving and painting techniques. These techniques can then be used on any lathe-turned form, or flat wood surfaces."
Donna Zils Banfield has been creating works of art in wood since 2001. She began teaching in 2007, and now offers private one-on-one instruction in her studio in Derry, NH. She is most often sought out for her surface embellishment techniques. Her Symposia presentations include Totally Turning, (NY); SWAT, (TX) Virginia Woodturning Symposium, (VA); New England Woodturning Symposium, (NH); AAW International Woodturning Symposia; and the Irish Woodturner’s Guild Annual Seminar (Ireland). She has taught at Arrowmont, Marc Adams School of Woodworking, and Snow Farm: The New England Craft School. Her work can be found in the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA and private collections in Australia, India, Southeast Asia, England, Ireland and across the U.S.A.
