About the Class: "The Nuts and Bolts of it All"
Participants will learn to turn a wood or acrylic nut and bolt set with hand chased threads. This class is all about precision and crafting something not normally made on a lathe. The classic wooden nut and bolt has been a general flat woodworking project for decades but I teach you how to make one out of a solid chunk of wood on the lathe. Wood selection, design, bolt head setup (slotted or hex) and hand chased threading will be the focus of this class.
As time permits we will cover a number of different finishing products and techniques to give you as many finishing options as possible.
Class participants are encouraged to attend Jeff's demonstration at the Folk Art Center on the day prior, in person if possible and otherwise by Zoom, to provide background for this class. Listed as a separate event on the CMW Calendar.
I began my woodturning journey in 2012 after sustaining a minor concussion in a car accident. Nothing too serious but I did experience “post concussion syndrome”. Finding a hobby helped me get through that and woodturning ended up being what I really became passionate about. After a couple years I started selling pens and small finished turnings. That experience led to bigger and better craft fairs and helped me really start to understand not only how to make better wood turnings but also start developing some expertise with tools, products and techniques.
The Walnut Log started to evolve from a craft fair vendor of finished goods to a supply retailer. In 2016 we became an LLC focused on providing our customers the highest quality tools, equipment and supplies for woodturning. By that time I was also an international demonstrator and woodturning teacher. Woodturning education is very important to me and I’m happy to offer that in addition to product information and demonstration.
