About the Class
INTRO TO SPINDLE TURNING!
Spindle turning is a great way to start developing your woodturning skill and complements bowl making.
It is an excellent way to refine tool control, requiring only basic tools and available materials.
This class is designed for Beginner Woodturners.
The class will start with the Spindle Roughing Gouge to round a rectangular blank.
We'll then cover how to make beads and coves using a Spindle Gouge.
Students will work on making “Bead and Cove Sticks”. We will also cover tool sharpening and maybe some basic skew cuts.
After lunch students will apply what was learned to make a couple of projects that are simple, fun, great practice and make nice gifts for your family and friends. Everyone will make a couple of each.
Corks for the hand turned Bottle Stoppers will be supplied at the class.
If you have your own tools, bring them. If you do not yet have your own tools CMW can loan you tools.
Rich Cowan hails from Greenville, SC, and is a retired computer networking engineer.
He has been wood turning since the mid-seventies, when his father brought home a used lathe. He turns a wide variety of items, including many different types of bowls, furniture and architectural spindles, ornaments, and even race cars for a Toy Program.
RIch particularly enjoys teaching in the region and is delighted to be returning to CMW's TLC for this class!
